Modulation or "self regulation" has long
been recognized as a serious issue for many individuals
with sensory processing disorders. And posture has been
addressed as a sensory motor development problem for many
years. But clinicians often miss the relationship and interaction
of these two basic and seemingly divergent functions. It
requires a new paradigm to generate strategies that address
both issues simultaneously and therefore enhance both modulation
and posture in more effective, efficient ways.
Because these two functions are critical for a life of
mobility, health, learning and well being, this course
will emphasize the neuroscience basis of the relationship
between modulation and posture that lays the foundation
for developing treatment programs that enhance both the
relationship and the functional outcomes of that relationship.
After taking this course you will:
• Define and describe modulation/self regulation
and the specifics of postural control that, in combination,
support life skills.
• Understand the reasons for typical
or atypical development of modulation and postural control
so that you can identify areas of dysfunction to address
in treatment.
• Know how to plan a course of treatment,
and how to evaluate your intervention through clinical
reasoning.

Participant comments
"Neuro foundation was thorough and well explained.
Great handouts for neuro & OT. Postural integrity well
presented. I appreciate the emphasis on relationship between
neuroscience and practical OT."
"Great
examples, clear, organized presentation...entertaining
speakers. Held my interest for the duration. I will sign
up for your other courses!"
"Understanding
the how of the CNS allows for better activity choice/analysis
for the children I treat."
"Wonderful
suggestions/ideas. Covered many areas - can apply specifics
to entire caseload at some point. Came away with a greater
understanding and good neurological reasoning to explain."
"The
most informative and enjoyable course I have taken in
a long time! Good ideas for practical applications."
"Many
of the treatment options can be implemented. There has
been a connection made between science and intervention."
