Description:
“Getting It Write” is a multisensory, 6 week handwriting program for children having difficulty with the foundation skills required for adequate handwriting maturation. Developed by occupational therapists, this group program can be adapted through school programs, clinical treatment, private practice, or community based programming. Included is a useful screening process to assist in recognizing and planning for the individual needs of each participant. Each of the six weeks concentrates on a different foundation skill required for developing good handwriting, including awareness of both sides of the body, somato-sensory processing, vestibular processing, visual-auditory processing, and fine motor skills. Self regulation strategies are encouraged through daily snacks, along with proper sitting posture, pencil grip and paper placement.
