Vestibular
Activation: Therapeutic Movement
to Optimize Social and Cognitive Occupation

While
most therapists working with children with developmental
and sensory-motor dysfunction acknowledge that the vestibular
system plays a pervasive role in the aquisition and maintenance
of function, intervention tends to involve the somewhat
indiscriminant application of vestibular stimulation. To
bring about improved and even refined functional outcomes,
clinicians must know how to optimize the therapeutic components
of movement and apply them appropriately.
Implications for visual and auditory function/dysfunction
are often overlooked when addressing issues related to
vestibular-cochlear nerve processing. Participants of this
course will learn neurologically sound, step-by-step assessment
and treatment strategies (including the Sound Activated
Vestibular-Oculomotor Protocol) and client-based clinical
reasoning. Treatment will be described/demonstrated that
embeds therapeutic concepts into fun, powerful activities
for precise, integrated skill development with clients.
After taking this course, you will:
• Appreciate
the pervasive influence of the vestibular/cochlear system
on all areas of human function, including visual and auditory processing.
•
Describe the Sound Activated Vestibular-Oculomotor Protocol and
how it is used for assessment and treatment.
•
Leave with a greater repertoire of vestibular activities
to support orien- tation, attention, core postural control,
bilaterally integrated move ments, social engagement
and cognitive processing.

Participant comments
"Great
information and labs - lots of great new activities.
Even familiar ones in a different way. Always good to
have new info, but also to confirm what I'm doing right."
"I feel I now have moe treatment ideas using vestibular
activities that will enhance the tactile/proprioceptive
activities already in place. Nice to see different pieces
of equipment & how they are used."
"Excellent
treatment ideas that I can use in my daily practice!
Thank you!"
"Great
course. I've never learned so many practical strategies
at a one-day course. Loved the lab(s)..."
"This course really helped me to take a critical
look @ all systems & my treatments."
