This course is the second in a 2-part sequence and open
to those participants who have taken Part I. This course
focuses on facilitating an institutional "buy-in" for
an expanded OT role in the schools. Participants will analyze
their own satisfaction and effectiveness related to their
current roles in school-based practice. Each participant
will have the opportunity to develop a personal plan of
action for facilitating change in the overall system with
emphasis on expanding possibilities for students. Discussion
and small group processing will be used to identify strategies
for developing a more effective and satisfying practice,
combining broader whole-person approaches with the strengths
of the existing more traditional approaches. Come to this
course for a healthy "shot in the arm" and fresh
attitude regarding our unique and powerful role in the
schools today and tomorrow.

Objectives: Participants will be able to
1. Broaden and clarify the definition and philosophy of
OT in the schools for educators, other professionals
and parents:
2. Redefine the role of OT in proactive teamwork related
to the practice of Response to Intervention (RtI);
3. Explore multiple forms of communication that helps parents,
administrators and other professionals understand the
unique role of occupational therapy; and
4. Describe concrete strategies for personally enhancing
satisfaction and effectiveness in the workplace.
