Contact Hours - Intro/Intermediate Level
This course is offered for 1.4 ASHA CEUs (Various Level, Related Area)
8:30 a.m. to 5:00 p.m.
Through this course, participants will discover effective ways to identify and successfully implement all levels of school-based intervention including Response to Intervention (RtI). Participants will understand updated federal and other governing laws and regulations that facilitate objective decision making in related services.
As the main focus, practical ideas will be shared that incorporate and reach further than the basics of appropriate assessment tools, outcome measures and intervention strategies. The speakers provide tried and successful strategies to overcome daily obstacles by addressing various topics such as time and department management, evidence based practice, effective team collaboration, diplomacy, objectivity, funding, budgeting and the effective use of resources. This course will put theory into practice with interactive labs and video clips to support the practitioner in using accessible, budget-friendly materials. It provides effective intervention strategies, ranging from environmental supports to hands-on activities for a variety of clients, including those with autism, sensory processing disorders and visual impairment. Participants will walk away with tools including ready-to-use templates for all needed documentation (i.e. forms, letters, reports and an assortment of classroom and home-programs) and essential, ready-to-present in-service packages for administrators, teachers and parents.
This course is suitable for occupational therapy practitioners transitioning into the school-based setting, as well as experienced school-based practitioners who want to become more effective and reach a deeper understanding of the scope of services in this practice area. This course has also been well received by physical therapists, psychologists, special educators, special education administrators and clinic-based therapists.
