Update in Neuroplasticity and Motor Control and Learning: Applying Evidence to Clinical Practice in Pediatrics

Contemporary theories of neuroplasticity, motor control and learning, and motor development will be presented. Emphasis will be on applying empirical evidence from studies of human subjects to pediatric evaluation and intervention strategies as well as predicting outcomes and managing patient care. Videotapes of patients will be used to illustrate major points.

This course is offered for 1.2 AOTA CEUs, Performance Skills, Evaluation & Intervention
This course was approved for 12.0 hours of Category 1 CE credit by the Minnesota Board of PT

Objectives: Participants will be able to
1. Describe contemporary theories of motor control, motor learning and motor development.
2. Apply principles of motor control and motor development to evaluation techniques.
3. Apply principles of motor learning to treatment sessions.
4. Compare differing viewpoints on the role of muscle ÔtoneÕ in motor control.
5. Discuss the rationale for early gait training.
6. List cognitive/perceptual prerequisites for praxis.
7. Discuss human research in neuroplasticity and synoptogenesis and their application to pediatric practice.
