Roadmaps
to Treating Children
with Sensory Integrative
Dysfunction Renee
Okoye, MS, OTR/L

Contact Hours
Did you ever wish you had a road map to
refer to when treating children who have sensory integration
dysfunction? The good news is that although there is
no cookbook, there is a "GPS" of fairly well defined treatment
strategies that lead to successful response to intervention
with many of these children. This interactive workshop,
termed “Roadmaps” will acquaint the beginning
and intermediate level therapist with clearly defined roadmaps
and tools for intervention when any of the following issues
compromise performance components at home or at school:
Sensory modulation
Disorders of postural tone
Coordination deficits, including disorders of:
Body awareness
Motor planning and motor sequencing
Postural control
Visual motor integration disorders
Video tape analysis and case studies will be presented,
enabling workshop participants to join in the processes
of clinical reasoning surrounding ongoing assessment, treatment,
and re-evaluating efficacy in light of treatment outcomes.
This course is offered for .6 AOTA CEUs, Performance Skills & Intervention
This course is offered for 6 MBTA Hours, Category 1, Approval #3499
Objectives: Participants will be able to 1)
identify different sub-types of sensory integration dysfunction
2) select treatment approaches, techniques, and strategies
appropriate for intervention with each sub-type identified
3) use a measurable process of clinical reasoning to evaluate
response to intervention with each sub-type identified
